THE SIGNIFICANCE OF COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE LEXICAL AND GRAMMATICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PROVERBS IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK

Abstract

Proverbs represent an important part of the cultural and linguistic heritage of every nation. They reflect the historical experience, worldview, and moral values of the people. This article discusses the lexical and grammatical characteristics of proverbs in English and Uzbek languages from a comparative perspective. Special attention is given to the process of translating proverbs and the difficulties that translators face when trying to find equivalent expressions in another language. The study analyzes similarities and differences between English and Uzbek proverbs in terms of structure, semantics, and stylistic functions. The research shows that although many proverbs share similar meanings, they often differ in lexical composition and grammatical structure. The correct translation of proverbs requires not only linguistic knowledge but also a deep understanding of cultural context.
