Innovation Hubs and Start-up Ecosystems in Kigali: A Strategic Analysis

Abstract

In Kigali, Rwanda's capital city, innovation hubs have emerged as critical components in fostering a vibrant startup ecosystem. The research employs a qualitative approach to examine existing literature and conduct interviews with key stakeholders involved in the startup sector and innovation hubs in Kigali. A notable theme emerging from the study is the significant role played by mentorship programmes offered by some of these hubs, which have contributed to the growth and success of startups. The findings suggest that strategic partnerships between government bodies, private sector entities, and educational institutions are crucial for sustaining a thriving startup ecosystem in Kigali. Recommendations include fostering more collaborative initiatives among stakeholders, enhancing mentorship programmes, and leveraging digital platforms to support startups.
