Traditional medicine plays a significant role in healthcare systems across Africa, including Côte d'Ivoire, where it is often used alongside modern medical practices. The research employs a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews with policy documents to analyse traditional medicine's role in providing healthcare services, particularly focusing on rural areas. Traditional healers are active in over 50% of villages surveyed, offering services such as herbal remedies and spiritual healing. These practitioners often provide essential care where formal healthcare facilities are scarce or underfunded. The findings highlight the importance of integrating traditional medicine into national health policies to improve access to healthcare for underserved populations in Côte d'Ivoire. Government agencies should collaborate with traditional healers and incorporate their services into formal healthcare systems, ensuring quality control and patient safety while addressing underfunding issues.
