
Renewable energy microgrids are increasingly being implemented in remote communities to address power shortages. In South Sudan villages, these systems can potentially improve access to electricity and education. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative data from standardised test scores and qualitative interviews with teachers and parents. Microgrids have shown a positive effect, particularly in improving reading comprehension by 15% in schools where they are operational compared to those without. While microgrids offer potential benefits for education, the current setup requires further refinement to realise their full educational potential. Investment should be directed towards enhancing teacher training and curriculum integration with renewable energy technologies to maximise learning outcomes.
