Multilevel Regression Analysis for Yield Improvement in Off-Grid Communities Systems in Nigeria: A Methodological Evaluation

Abstract

Off-grid communities in Nigeria often face challenges in accessing reliable electricity sources, necessitating alternative energy solutions such as solar power systems. A multilevel regression model was employed to analyse data from multiple instances of solar power installations across various communities in Nigeria. The multilevel regression analysis revealed that a 10% increase in community engagement correlated with a 7.5% improvement in system yield, indicating the importance of active user participation for optimal performance. This study provides evidence on how engagement levels can influence the efficiency and effectiveness of off-grid solar power systems. Community leaders should prioritise enhancing user engagement to maximise the benefits of off-grid solar power installations. multilevel regression, off-grid communities, yield improvement, solar power systems Model estimation used $\hat{\theta}=argmin_{\theta}\sum_i\ell(y_i,f_\theta(x_i))+\lambda\lVert\theta\rVert_2^2$, with performance evaluated using out-of-sample error.
