THE ROLE OF ENGLISH AS A GLOBAL LANGUAGE IN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATION

Abstract

This article examines the role of English as a global language in international communication, education, business, science, and diplomacy. In the modern era of globalization, English has become the most widely used language for cross-cultural interaction and international cooperation. The study explores the historical development of English from a regional language to a dominant global lingua franca and analyzes the social, economic, and technological factors that contributed to its worldwide spread. Particular attention is given to the importance of English in international organizations, academic research, higher education, and global trade. The article also highlights how English facilitates communication among people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, enabling effective exchange of information, knowledge, and ideas. In addition, the research discusses the role of English in digital communication, media, and the internet, where it functions as a primary language for global interaction. Furthermore, the article addresses both the advantages and challenges associated with the global dominance of English. While English provides opportunities for international collaboration, access to scientific knowledge, and professional development, it may also create linguistic inequality and place pressure on speakers of other languages. Therefore, the study emphasizes the importance of maintaining linguistic diversity while recognizing the practical value of English as a common international language. The findings of the article demonstrate that English plays a crucial role in connecting people around the world and supporting international cooperation in various fields. As globalization continues to expand, the significance of English as a tool for communication, education, and global development is expected to grow even further.
