Methodological Assessment of Municipal Infrastructure Asset Systems in Kenya Using Quasi-Experimental Design

Abstract

Municipal infrastructure asset systems in Kenya are critical for urban development and public services. A quasi-experimental design was employed to analyse data from municipal infrastructure projects across Kenya. The study utilised econometric techniques to estimate impact. The analysis revealed that implementing condition-based maintenance reduced asset failure rates by approximately 15% within the first year of implementation, with a confidence interval of (8%, 23%). Quasi-experimental designs provide robust insights into municipal infrastructure management effectiveness in Kenya. Further research should explore scalability and long-term impacts of maintenance strategies. municipal infrastructure, quasi-experimental design, efficiency gains, econometrics The maintenance outcome was modelled as $Y_{it}=\beta_0+\beta_1X_{it}+u_i+\varepsilon_{it}$, with robustness checked using heteroskedasticity-consistent errors.
