Quality controlled and gap-filled continuous wind speed and wind direction data from the urban rooftop weather station at Freiburg-Chemiehochhaus (FRCHEM, 7.8486ºE, 48.0011ºN, 323.5 m) measured using a cup anemoemeter (Lambrecht 00.14576.250 004) and a wind vane (Vector Instruments W200P) operated on a mast 10 m above roof level. Quality controlled wind speed and wind direction data are available and aggregated at 10min, 30min, hourly, daily, monthly and yearly resolution for the year 2022. Wind speed is provided in m/s as average and maximum (gust maximum, measured every 3 sec) over the period shown, respectively. The minimum wind speed provided / measured is 0.4826 m/s as (threshold value of the cup anemometer). Hence a measurement of 0.4826 can be any value between 0 and 0.4826 m/s. Wind speed classes are reported as number of hours with average and maximum wind within the Beaufort classes as follows: Beaufort 0 and 1 (Calm and light air): 0 — 1.6 m/s, Beaufort 1 (Light breeze): 1.6 — 3.4 m/s, Beaufort 2 (Gentle breeze): 3.4 — 5.5 m/s, Beaufort 4 (Moderate breeze): 5.5 — 8 m/s, Beaufort 5 (Fresh breeze): 8 — 10.8 m/s, Beaufort 6 (Strong breeze): 10.8 — 13.9 m/s, Beaufort 7 (Moderate gale): 13.9 — 17.2 m/s, Beaufort 8 (Gale): 17.2 — 20.8 m/s, Beaufort 9 (Strong/severe gale): 20.8 — 24.5 m/s, Beaufort 10 (Storm): 24.5 — 28.5 m/s, Beaufort 11 and higher: 28.5 — 50 m/s. Wind direction is provided in geographic degrees (relative to geographic North, not magnetic North) with standard geographic definition of wind direction (0° = wind from North, 90° = wind from East, 180° = wind from South and 270° = wind from West). Wind direction is reported as number of hours with average vector wind direction per 10° sector (36 classes of 10° from 0°-360°) for daily, monthly and yearly scales, wind direction is also reported as number of days with average vector wind direction on monthly and yearls scales. Files "FRCHEM_2022_Windrose.html" and "FRCHEM_2022_Windrose.pdf" provide monthly and annual wind roses for the year 2022 in intercative and graphical formats. Detailed information on gap-filled data is provided. Note: All times are provided in UTC, not local time.
