A conference presentation titled “Silesian-Language Literature as an Act of Subversion toward the Legal Status of Silesian,” delivered at the III Scientific Conference “Human – Language – Law,” held at the Faculty of Polish Philology of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań on 18-19 November 2025. The presentation examines contemporary Silesian-language literary production as a form of cultural practice situated between resistance and subversion in relation to the legal and symbolic status of the Silesian language in Poland. Drawing on selected examples of original literary works, translations, editorial initiatives, and paratextual statements by writers and translators, it analyses how actors within the Upper Silesian literary field use literature to articulate identity, strengthen community ties, and challenge dominant cultural and linguistic hierarchies. Particular attention is given to both explicit and implicit practices of resistance present in literary texts and publishing strategies, including the use of the minority language as a medium of literary creation, the translation of canonical works into Silesian, and the framing of these activities as part of a broader struggle for linguistic recognition and cultural autonomy. The presentation argues that Silesian-language literature functions not only as a means of cultural expression but also as a socially and politically significant practice that contributes to the consolidation of a linguistic and cultural community.
