The aedeagus is more elongate compared to that of M. curculioides, with narrow parameres (Iablokoff-Khnzorian 1985) (Fig. 1). It can be distinguished from the closely-related Mediterranean species M. umbellatarum (Fabricius, 1787), in particular by the parallel sides of the rostrum (narrowed apically in M. umbellatarum) and by the position of the antennae, attached at a greater distance from the eyes (Iablokoff-Khnzorian 1985).
