Accessible Extensions of the CHICHE Experiential Instrument: An Open Research Letter and Call for Collaboration

Abstract

Description (EN) This document takes the form of an open research letter inviting methodological collaboration around accessible extensions of the CHICHE experiential instrument. CHICHE is designed to document how concrete everyday situations are experienced by autistic adults, with particular attention to both the frequency with which these situations occur and the subjective cost or effort they represent. The project explores the following methodological question: Can an experiential research instrument preserve its analytical structure while being accessible through different modes of communication? An exploratory extension of the instrument is proposed through three administration formats: standard textual questionnaire easy-to-read version (FALC) AAC version (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) The first step of the project consists of examining the adaptation and translatability of the instrument’s items into these different formats in order to identify the necessary transformations and their methodological implications. This document therefore serves as an open call for collaboration, particularly for contributors working in areas such as: qualitative methodology cognitive accessibility augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) accessible visual design empirical experimentation Related resources The main materials associated with this project are available in the following repositories: Corpus of the 77 CHICHE items (primary working material)https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18735546 Presentation of the methodological problem and the CHICHE instrumenthttps://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18895970 These resources allow potential collaborators to directly examine: the structure of the instrument the situations described in the items possible transformations towards accessible formats. Research programme context This work is part of the research programme: Discursive Signatures and Uses of Large Language Models This programme investigates the interactional conditions under which knowledge becomes expressible, stabilisable and interpretable, analysing how interactional configurations influence the form and comparability of produced responses. Within this framework, CHICHE serves as a methodological case study for examining how different modes of expression may influence the formulation and interpretability of lived experience.
