Digital Transformation of Local Commerce: The Role of Local Business Directories in Enhancing MSME Visibility – A Case Study of IndiaBusinessTree

Abstract

The digital evolution has altered established ways of conducting business globally. Greater utilization of web technologies and digital arenas has notably impacted how enterprises connect with patrons and supply offerings. Companies are progressively moving away from older promotional approaches toward digital avenues to broaden their market scope and enhance patron involvement (Kotler, Kartajaya, & Setiawan, 2017). Across India, the swift expansion of internet access and mobile phone use has sped up the transition to finding goods and services online. Recent research into the digital marketplace suggests that shoppers increasingly lean on web-based portals to look up nearby establishments, contrast offerings, and finalize buying choices thoughtfully (Statista, 2023). Neighborhood business listings serve as unified digital hubs where firms can establish profiles detailing company specifics, available services, contact information, and physical whereabouts. These directories assist businesses in boosting their online presence and ease of finding them in search outcomes (Chaffey & EllisChadwick, 2019). Services like IndiaBusinessTree offer complimentary company listing options intended to elevate local visibility for smaller ventures and encourage the embrace of online promotion among neighborhood firms. Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are vital to the Indian financial structure but frequently miss the necessary technological skill and funds to forge a solid online footprint. Digital venues and web-based listings assist in bypassing these hurdles by furnishing budget-friendly promotion avenues and enhancing visibility on search engines (OECD, 2020). This research investigates the ways local business listings facilitate digital integration, boost local search engine optimization (SEO) results, and allow for economical patron acquisition for MSMEs in developing digital economies
