Abstract Microorganisms are among the most diverse and influential forms of life on Earth. Although traditionally viewed primarily as agents of disease, modern scientific research has revealed that microorganisms are indispensable to human health, medical progress, and environmental sustainability. They play essential roles in physiological processes, pharmaceutical development, biotechnology, agriculture, and ecosystem functioning. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the impact and applications of microorganisms on human health, medicine, and the environment. Both beneficial and harmful effects of microorganisms are discussed, along with recent advancements, challenges such as antimicrobial resistance, and future prospects. The study highlights the importance of responsible utilization and management of microorganisms to enhance human well-being and promote sustainable development.
