CrowdCAD: An Open Source Computer-Aided Dispatch Tool for Event EMS

Abstract

CrowdCAD v1.0.0 — Initial Public Release CrowdCAD is an open-source, browser-based Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system designed for volunteer EMS agencies, collegiate EMS organizations, and event medical teams. It provides a lightweight, real-time dispatch platform optimized for temporary events, campus operations, and resource-constrained medical teams. This initial public release (v1.0.0) establishes the core architecture and operational feature set required for live event deployment, including event configuration, dispatch workflows, team tracking, and equipment management. Core Capabilities Event creation and management with posting schedules Real-time incident tracking and call logging Team and supervisor status management Walk-up clinic tracking Equipment deployment and staging management Interactive venue maps with layered visualization Resolved-call archiving and activity logs The system is designed to support multi-team event operations. Technical Architecture CrowdCAD v1.0.0 is built using: Next.js 15 (App Router) with TypeScript TailwindCSS design system with custom semantic tokens Firebase Authentication and Firestore real-time database Firebase Hosting deployment pipeline Firebase Data Connect with PostgreSQL schema for structured data The project includes baseline security rules, deployment configuration templates, and full documentation covering architecture, deployment, and contribution workflows. License This software is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0). Derivative works and network-deployed modifications must preserve license terms and provide corresponding source code. Citation If you use CrowdCAD in research, operational deployment, or academic publication, please cite this Zenodo record and corresponding DOI for version 1.0.0.
