
Sciomesa mesophaea (Aurivillius, 1910b) COMMON NAME(S): Owlet Moth, Underwing or Noctuid moth. SYNONYM(S): Conicofrontia mesoscia Hampson, 1918a; Sciomesa etchecopari Laporte, 1975; Sciomesa constantini Laporte, 1984; Sciomesa mirifica Laporte, 1984. IUCN STATUS: Not Evaluated (NE). DISTRIBUTION: Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia. LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Mpika, in Muchinga Province. LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): Host plants include the following Typhaceae species; Typha domingensis Pers. and T. latifolia L. (Moyal et al. 2010). They also include the following Cyperaceae species; Schoenoplectus sp., Cyperus dives Delile, C. aterrimus Hochst. ex Steud., C. congestus Vahl, C. dichrostachyus Hochst., C. involucratus Rottb. and C. solidus Kunth (Moyal et al. 2010).
