The Effect of Training Using Goals on Shooting Accuracy of Petanque Athletes in Jambi City

Abstract

Background: Petanque is a precision sport that requires accuracy in shooting techniques, particularly in hitting the target ball (boule to boule). Shooting accuracy plays a crucial role in enhancing athletes’ performance. This study aimed to determine the effect of goal media training on the shooting accuracy of petanque athletes in Jambi City. Methods: This research employed an experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 12 petanque athletes selected using total sampling technique. Shooting accuracy was measured using the one target boule to boule test. Data were analyzed through normality test, homogeneity test, paired sample t-test, and effect size test. Results: The normality test indicated that both pretest and posttest data were normally distributed (Sig. > 0.05), and the homogeneity test showed homogeneous variance (Sig. = 0.798). The paired sample t-test revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (t = -37.910; Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.001; p < 0.05), with a mean improvement of 17.667 points. The effect size analysis produced a Cohen’s d value of 1.614, categorized as a very large effect, indicating a strong influence of goal media training on shooting accuracy improvement. Conclusion: Goal media-based training has a significant and strong effect on improving the shooting accuracy of petanque athletes and is recommended as an effective training method to enhance shooting performance.
