Abstract

La química suele presentarse ante quienes se acercan por primera vez a ella como un vasto y complejo edificio de fórmulas, símbolos y ecuaciones que, en apariencia, poco tienen que ver con la realidad cotidiana. Nada más lejos de la realidad. Este manual de nivelación preuniversitaria ha sido concebido con la convicción de que la química es, ante todo, una forma de mirar y comprender el mundo que nos rodea, desde el aire que respiramos y los alimentos que consumimos hasta los medicamentos que nos curan y los materiales que construyen nuestra civilización. Comprender los principios básicos de esta ciencia constituye un requisito académico para acceder a la universidad y, a la vez, una herramienta que nos permite apreciar la profunda unidad de la naturaleza y el asombroso entramado de relaciones que hacen posible la vida. Por ello, a lo largo de estas páginas, hemos procurado explicar conceptos y mostrar su aplicación en fenómenos reconocibles y cercanos, convencidos de que se aprende mejor aquello que se comprende y se valora.
