
Anemia among pregnant women is a serious global health concern, iron deficiency anemia being the most common cause of anemia. Iron deficiency is common during pregnancy due to increased iron requirement which is not easily fulfilled by dietary intake especially when iron bio availability is poor. Severe iron deficiency anemia during labour has adverse labour outcomes, postpartum haemorrhage being the most common and serious adverse outcome.
