Methodological Evaluation of Community Health Centre Systems in Uganda: A Meta-Analysis Using Randomized Field Trials

Abstract

Community health centers (CHCs) play a crucial role in healthcare delivery in Uganda, but their effectiveness and adoption rates vary significantly. A systematic review approach was employed to synthesize data from multiple studies. Randomized field trial designs were used, with statistical models accounting for heterogeneity in study outcomes. In the evaluated trials, CHC adoption rates ranged between 30% and 50%, with significant variation across different regions of Uganda. CHCs are adopted at varying levels, influenced by factors such as accessibility to services and community engagement. Further research is needed to optimise these systems. Communities should be actively involved in CHC planning and implementation to enhance their effectiveness and sustainability. Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
