Popular and useful design to monitor fetal and maternal health during pregnancy: Innovative wearable technology

Abstract

Maternal and fetal health monitoring during pregnancy is fundamental to reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Despite advancements in antenatal care, complications such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, preterm labor, fetal distress, and maternal hypertension remain significant contributors to adverse outcomes worldwide. Innovative wearable technologies present an emerging solution to bridge gaps in continuous monitoring, early detection, and timely intervention. This article proposes a novel nursing design patent titled Popular and Useful Design to Monitor Fetal and Maternal Health during Pregnancy: Innovative Wearable Technology. The design integrates biosensors, wireless communication modules, artificial intelligence analytics, and nurse-led monitoring frameworks into a comfortable, user-friendly wearable device. Evidence from the last ten years supports the clinical relevance, feasibility, and effectiveness of wearable maternal-fetal monitoring systems. The article discusses technological components, nursing roles, implementation strategies, ethical considerations, and future directions, emphasizing the transformative role of nursing innovation in digital maternal healthcare.
