Abstract

O artigo examina os sistemas contemporâneos de identificação de pesquisadores e de mensuração do impacto acadêmico, com foco na ORCID e na Web of Science (WoS). Inicialmente, destaca-se o problema da homonímia na produção científica, agravado pela padronização de citações com sobrenome e iniciais, o que compromete a correta atribuição de autoria e a precisão das métricas de impacto. Nesse contexto, são analisadas diferentes estratégias institucionais para enfrentamento desse desafio, como a adoção de identificadores persistentes de objetos digitais (DOI) e de autores, a exemplo do ResearcherID, vinculado à WoS. O texto discute o modelo de negócios da Web of Science, enfatizando seu caráter comercial e os altos custos de assinatura, bem como a centralidade do fator de impacto como métrica de prestígio acadêmico. Em contraste, apresenta-se a ORCID como iniciativa sem fins lucrativos voltada à criação de um identificador único, universal e interoperável para pesquisadores, amplamente integrado a sistemas nacionais e internacionais. Conclui-se que a consolidação do ORCID como padrão global responde à necessidade de transparência, padronização e confiabilidade na gestão de dados científicos e na avaliação da produção acadêmica.
