This study assessed the levels of heavy metals in water in River Niger and River Benue conference in Lokoja, Nigeria. Standard methods were employed to measure heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Zn, Cu, Fe). Random sampling technique was used to collect samples from twenty locations; resulting in five composite samples labeled A, B, C, D, and E. Atomic adsorption spectrophotometer (AAS) was used to determine the heavy metals. Results obtained revealed the presence of heavy metals in water in the samples. The results indicated that some have higher levels of pollutants concentrations surpassing WHO limits. These findings underscore significant ecological threats, diminished water quality, and possible health risks for communities that depend on these rivers for food and domestic purposes. Monitoring and stricter pollution control measures are advised to protect both aquatic life and human health in the study area.
