Ropalidia flavoscutellata Polasek 2025

Authors: Polašek, Ozren;

Ropalidia flavoscutellata Polasek 2025

Abstract

Ropalidia flavoscutellata Polašek, 2025 Taxonomy. Ropalidia flavoscutellata Polašek, 2025 is a name that was assigned to a newly described taxon, but it is a junior primary homonym of Ropalidia jacobsoni flavoscutellata Das & Gupta, 1989. Due to this, in line with the (International Code of Zoological Nomenclature 1999), articles 53.3, 60.3 and 72.7, a new replacement name is proposed for this taxon, Ropalidia mutuntula Polašek, nom. nov. The etymology of the name stems from Bemba, a major language spoken in the region of the holotype collection, translated as “ yellow ”, referring to large yellow areas on the body, noun in apposition.

Published as part of Polašek, Ozren, 2026, Description of the male of Ropalidia chromis Polašek, 2024 with further biological notes on the African species of the genus (Hymenoptera, Vespidae, Polistinae), pp. 1-18 in African Invertebrates 67 (1) on pages 1-18, DOI: 10.3897/afrinvertebr.67.162082
