Attitude of Selected Undergraduates of Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji-Arakeji to the Use of Artificial Intelligence for Learning

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a simulation of human intelligence in machines designed to perform tasks that require human cognitive functions such as reasoning, problem solving, perception, language understanding and decision making. It gives room for many opportunities and balances innovation with human values. This paper examines the attitude of undergraduates of Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji-Arakeji to AI for learning. It expands young peoples’ ideas on where learning can occur and provides support for developmental skills and accelerated opportunities. Qualitative and quantitative method of analysis were used for the research. Questionnaire, interviews and focus group discussions, were used to gather data on students’ attitude to the use of AI for learning. 200 participants were purposively selected as quantitative data and were served questionnaire while interview and focus group discussion provided qualitative insights to the study. 200 were administered and 180 were returned. Twenty (20) students were interviewed while 32 took part in focus group discussion- 8 participants from 100 – 400 levels making a total 252 participants. The finding reveals that the undergraduates have positive attitude to the use of AI for learning and that most of them find it easy to interact with it, many of them find it helpful in their university assignments and other intellectual commitments.
