Abstract

L'aspect du sujet abordé dans cette étude. Cette étude décrit le profil clinique, les agents toxiques en cause et l'évolution des patients pris en charge pour intoxication aiguë dans deux hôpitaux de référence de Douala sur une période de cinq ans. Ce que cette étude apporte de nouveau. Sur 123 cas analysés, les intoxications touchent majoritairement des adultes jeunes (âge médian 27 ans). Elles sont accidentelles dans 84 % des cas, surviennent à domicile (95 %) et par ingestion (93 %). Les médicaments (24 %), les caustiques (24 %) et les pesticides (22 %) représentent plus des deux tiers des toxiques. Les complications concernent un quart des patients, et la mortalité atteint 9 %, malgré un délai de consultation souvent rapide (moins de trois heures pour près de la moitié des cas).
