Abstract

Chiromachla leuconoe (Hopffer, 1857) COMMON NAME(S): White Bear, Tiger Moth. White Bear SYNONYM(S): None. IUCN STATUS: Not Evaluated (NE). DISTRIBUTION: Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Seychelles, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe. LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Kafue, in Lusaka Province; Ndola and Chililabombwe, in Copperbelt Province. LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): Larval foodplants include a yet to be identified Rubiaceae species (Coffea sp.) in Angola and a yet to be identified Asteraceae species (Senecio sp.) in unnamed African country or countries (Pinhey 1975). The African Moths (2019) webpage list the following as larval foodplants of the taxon; eight Asteraceae species (i.e. Emilia abyssinica (Sch.Bip. ex A.Rich.) C.Jeffrey, Senecio pellucidus DC., S. madagascariensis Poir., S. syringifolius O.Hoffm., Bidens pilosa L., Crassocephalum vitellinum S.Moore, Cynara sp., and Eclipta prostrata Lour.), one Plantaginaceae species (Vernonica sp.), one Moraceae (Morus sp.), one Rosaceae species (Rubus sp.) and one Rubiaceae species (Coffea sp.).
