Abstract

Urota sinope (Westwood, 1849) COMMON NAME(S): Tailed Emperor or Edible caterpillar (“Finakisungwa” in “Bemba” language in Zambia). SYNONYM(S): Urota flavobrunnea Stoneham, 1962. IUCN STATUS: Not Evaluated (NE). DISTRIBUTION: Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe. LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Kopa, in Muchinga Province. LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): Larval foodplants include one Anacardiaceae species (Sclerocarya birrea subsp. caffra (Sond.) Kokwaro), five Fabaceae species (Erythrina abyssinica DC., E. lysistemon Hutch., E. caffra Thunb., Laburnum sp., and Robinia pseudoacacia L.) and one Myrtaceae species (Eucalyptus sp.)
