WRF data for "Projections of the 2011 Super Tornado Outbreak Into the Future Under Global Warming and Stratospheric Aerosol Injection"

Abstract

This dataset supports the research presented in "Projections of the 2011 Super Tornado Outbreak Into the Future Under Global Warming and Stratospheric Aerosol Injection". As extracted or calculated from the WRF output, the netcdf files include hourly data for each variable from April 25th 2011 to April 28th 2011 (0000 UTC - 2300 UTC) covering 30-42˚N and 78-102˚S. The variables included (shown as the file names) are as follows: [scenario abbreviation]_cape_042511-042811.nc - MCAPE (J/kg), MCIN (J/kg), LCL (m), and LFC (m) in that order [scenario abbreviation]_eth_0dbz_042511-042811.nc - Echo top height for any reflectivity echo >= 0 dBZ [scenario abbreviation]_eth_20dbz_042511-042811.nc - Echo top height for any reflectivity echo >= 20 dBZ [scenario abbreviation]_eth_40dbz_042511-042811.nc - Echo top height for any reflectivity echo >= 40 dBZ [scenario abbreviation]_precip_042511-042811.nc - Accumulated precipitation in mm [scenario abbreviation]_pw_042511-042811.nc - Total column precipitable water in mm [scenario abbreviation]_stormMode_strong_042511-042811.nc - Storm mode classification using strong thresholds [scenario abbreviation]_temp_042511-042811.nc - 2m temperature in ˚C [scenario abbreviation]_UH03_042511-042811.nc - Updraft helicity from 0 - 3 km [scenario abbreviation]_upmax_042511-042811.nc - Maximum updraft speed in m/s For these variables there are 5 total files, where the scenario abbreviation represents one of the following: c - control (ERA5 reanalysis) aPgw - arise pseudo-global warming (ERA5 + ΔCESM for SSP2-4.5) gPgw - glens pseudo-global warming (ERA5 + ΔCESM for RCP8.5) aPsai - arise pseudo-stratospheric aerosol injection (ERA5 + ΔCESM for ARISE) gPsai - glens pseudo-stratospheric aerosol injection (ERA5 + ΔCESM for GLENS) In addition to these variables there are also the following files for only the control simulation: c_height500_042511-042811.nc - 500 mb height in dm c_uWind500_042511-042811.nc - U component of the wind vector at 500 mb c_vWind500_042511-042811.nc - V component of the wind vector at 500 mb c_windspeed500_042511-042811.nc - Windspeed at 500 mb in kts
