The Slovenian Social Science Data Archive is one of the major players in the promotion and implementation of open data in Slovenia, especially in the social sciences. It is also the service provider for Slovenia to Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA). In this lecture the Slovenian context of open science will be presented: policies and legal bases for sharing research data, the process of open data implementation and common barriers to data sharing. We will pay special attention to the implementation of the data sharing commitment at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia's leading and largest public university. Through the University of Ljubljana example, we aim to show the obstacles at several steps of the implementation of the policy and the benefits of the collaboration between the archive and the university.
