Abstract

This Master’s Thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of the evolution and role of data in contemporary digital society, approaching it from a three-dimensional perspective: as an object of protection under the fundamental right to data protection, as a strategic economic asset, and as a social asset with significant collective impact. Starting from a historical overview of the concept of data, the study examines its consolidation as a core element of the digital ecosystem and its legal recognition within constitutional and European regulatory frameworks. The thesis further explores the economic value of data in the platform economy, business digitalization processes, asset tokenization, and the transformation of the financial system. From a social perspective, it analyses the use of data as a tool of influence and control, as well as its implications for social networks, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital identification systems. The research is complemented by a practical case study in the business sector, illustrating the real-world application of the theoretical approaches and highlighting data as a key driver of innovation, competitiveness, and the protection of rights in the digital age.
