Abstract

Abstract Within the context of Moroccan vocational education and training, the effectiveness of career guidance constitutes a key determinant of trainees’ educational and professional trajectories. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of career guidance practices within OFPPT in the Rabat–Salé–Kénitra region, with particular attention to the extent to which early guidance mechanisms orient trainees toward vocational pathways aligned with their competencies and professional aspirations. To address this objective, a descriptive mixed-methods research design was adopted. The quantitative component relied on the administration of an online questionnaire to 271 trainees enrolled in various OFPPT institutions, with the collected data analyzed using SPSS statistical software. The qualitative component was based on semi-structured interviews conducted with five OFPPT career guidance counselors, aiming to complement and contextualize the quantitative findings. The results indicate that OFPPT demonstrates a clear institutional commitment to enhancing the alignment between vocational training and labor market requirements through career guidance, with a focus on trainees’ skills and professional interests. Nevertheless, the findings also reveal limitations related to the generalization of the guidance system and the diversity of assessment approaches employed within the guidance process, thereby underscoring the need for further structuring and reinforcement of career guidance practices.
