Society, Culture and Education

Abstract

Education is not merely a process of acquiring knowledge and skills; it isdeeply embedded in the social and cultural fabric of society. Society, culture, and education are interdependent forces that continuously influence andreshape one another. The book “Society, Culture and Education” is anattempt to explore this dynamic relationship and to present education as apowerful social institution that both reflects and transforms society. In the contemporary world, education plays a crucial role in maintainingsocial order, transmitting cultural values, shaping individual identities, andpromoting social change. Issues such as social stratification, genderinequality, cultural diversity, globalization, technological advancement, anddemocratic citizenship have significantly influenced educational systemsacross the world. This book critically examines these issues within asociological and cultural framework. Each chapter of this book is systematically organized to provide a clearunderstanding of key concepts such as education in social context, culturaltransmission, socialization, power and ideology, social change, language andlearning, technology, democracy, and contemporary challenges in education.Efforts have been made to present the content in a simple, lucid, and studentfriendly manner while maintaining academic rigor. This book is primarily intended for students of B.Ed., M.Ed., Education,Sociology, and Teacher Education programmes, as well as educators, researchers, and practitioners who wish to understand the broader social andcultural dimensions of education. It is hoped that this book will encouragecritical thinking, social awareness, and a deeper appreciation of education asa transformative force in society
