The main gate of the Alcaicería, which opens onto Calle Zacatín, was one of the busiest places in the city of Granada. At the top, was a highly venerated image of the Virgin Mary, where a short service of the Salve Regina was held and where those who were to be executed would stop, urged by the Jesuits to express their repentance in a public act of contrition.
