Abstract

El Cenotafio de Newton, concebido por Étienne-Louis Boullée en 1784, constituye una propuesta de arquitectura parlante que integra los principios racionalistas de la Ilustración, las referencias formales derivadas de la tradición clásica y una concepción transformada del espacio arquitectónico como medio de experiencia intelectual. El proyecto trasciende las limitaciones técnicas y se presenta como una reflexión arquitectónica que explora el potencial expresivo de la disciplina, representando conceptos metafísicos a través de una configuración basada en la perfección formal de la esfera. Boullée reelabora los dispositivos conmemorativos tradicionales para registrar una reflexión sobre la racionalidad, la infinitud y la capacidad del intelecto humano para formular sistemas explicativos del cosmos.
