Abstract

Los sistemas microelectromecánicos, SMEM o MEMS por sus siglas en inglés, surgieron en la década de los 60s a partir de la tecnología de circuitos integrados (CIs), chips o microchips, pero su aplicación comercial e industrial fue en los 80s y 90s. Los CIs son parte de nuestra vida desde hace mucho tiempo. Prácticamente todos los aparatos eléctricos y electrónicos que utilizamos de manera cotidiana contienen circuitos integrados. Un microchip consiste en la integración de diversos circuitos en un mismo espacio, esto facilita la comunicación entre distintos componentes como memorias, sensores, mecanismos y luces. Esta integración permite realizar una gran variedad de funciones de manera rápida y eficiente.
