
ATL8 is a structure-first symbolic memory substrate developed as part of the Proto-Pineal project at Cognis 11 Inc.It is designed to represent memory as internal geometry rather than stored semantic content, relying on invariant-preserving symbolic genomes instead of embeddings, training, or annotation. Memory in ATL8 is encoded as fixed-length symbolic strands (10-mers) composed of five base symbols and a modifier layer, forming a discrete mutation space suitable for structural analysis. By constructing feature spaces from invariant statistics over single-site mutation neighborhoods and projecting them via principal component analysis, we observe the emergence of bounded, directional local geometries. Mutation positions correspond to consistent directions in space, yielding tangible geometric structure without learned representations. These artifacts, referred to here as memory gems, are not conclusions but crystallizations that confirm the substrate exhibits real internal geometry. All figures are generated directly from included data and scripts to ensure reproducibility. ATL8 remains an active work in progress.
