Comprehensive Bibliography on the Congregação Cristã no Brasil and Correlated Groups

Abstract

This dataset presents an extensive, multidisciplinary bibliography documenting the historical trajectory, theological development, and sociological impact of the Congregação Cristã no Brasil (CCB) and its transnational affiliates. Spanning over a century of scholarship—from early 20th-century primary accounts to contemporary 2026 analyses—the collection includes academic theses, monographs, ecclesiastical documents, legal case studies, and musical treatises. Key thematic areas covered in this bibliography include: Historical Origins and Migration: Detailed accounts of the movement's inception and establishment in via Louis Francescon, its roots in the Italian-American revival in Chicago, and its subsequent expansion across Brazil, Europe, and the Americas. Theology and Doctrine: Explorations of Classical Pentecostal identity, pneumatology, and specific practices such as the use of the veil, the holy kiss, and baptismal rites. Sociology and Culture: Research on the "invisible" nature of the CCB in the public sphere, gender roles in leadership and worship, and the sect's interactions with urban and rural environments. Musicology: A significant corpus of work dedicated to the CCB’s unique orchestral tradition, organist training, and the evolution of its sacred hymnals. Legal History and Religious Liberty: Documentation of the persecution of Pentecostal groups during the Fascist era in Italy and the ongoing legal challenges faced by minority faiths in Brazil and abroad. This repository serves as a critical resource for researchers in Religious Studies, History, Sociology, Theology, Migration Studies, Pentecostal Studies, Hymnology and Musicology, offering a foundational map of one of the largest and most distinctive Pentecostal movements in the Global South. Keywords: Congregação Cristã no Brasil; Movimento Pentecostal Italiano; Louis Francescon; Italian Pentecostal Movement; Pentecostalism
