Abstract

Abstract Oral health is an essential part of overall well-being, yet almost half of the world’s population suffers from oral diseases without receiving proper care (World Health Organization, 2022). Among the most common conditions are dental caries and pulpal infections, which often require endodontic treatment to preserve the affected tooth. This procedure aims to remove the damaged tissue, clean the root canal system, and seal it properly to prevent reinfection. Over the years, endodontics has evolved thanks to new technologies, materials, and methods that have improved clinical outcomes. This study aims to analyze and compare the main clinical and technical factors that influence the success of endodontic treatment, contrasting traditional methods with current advances. A narrative literature review was conducted using articles published between 2010 and 2025, obtained from databases such as PubMed, SciELO, Redalyc, Elsevier, and Medline Dental. The most relevant clinical factors identified were accurate diagnosis, knowledge of root canal anatomy, and control of periapical infections. Regarding technical factors, proper instrumentation, the correct use of irrigants, and adequate obturation were highlighted. Innovations such as nickel-titanium rotary files, active irrigation systems, and bioceramic sealers have significantly increased the success rate of endodontic treatments. In conclusion, the integration of modern technology with proper clinical practice allows dental professionals to achieve more predictable, durable, and safe endodontic results for patients.
