Abstract

Die Arbeitsgruppe Finanzierung von Open Access des Open Access Network Austria (OANA) stellte sich die Frage: Wie hoch sind die Kosten, die Österreich für akademische Publikationen im Jahr zu tragen hat? Die Frage ist im Hinblick auf Open Access insofern relevant, als die Daten aufzeigen, welche Ressourcen zur Verfügung stehen und die Voraussetzung für eine Umstellung des Systems auf Open Access bilden. Mit einiger Ernüchterung kann man das Ergebnis der Arbeitsgruppe bereits am Anfang vorwegnehmen: Genaue Kosten sind nicht bekannt! Die Ursache dafür ist in der Komplexität des wissenschaftlichen Publikationssystems mit seiner Vielzahl an Publikationsarten, Finanzierungsformen und Finanzierungsquellen zu finden. Daher versteht sich die folgende Analyse als eine erste Annäherung, auf deren Grundlage eine bessere Datenbasis geschaffen werden soll.
