PALM-4U Input and Output Data for the Granollers Domain (Deliverable D3.4)

Abstract

README.md - PALM-4U Granollers Dataset OverviewThis dataset is associated with Deliverable 3.4 of project KNOWING. This dataset contains input and output files for PALM-4U simulations performed for the Granollers region (Spain). Two scenarios are included: 1. Reference scenario (current conditions)2. Future scenario (modified land-use for intervention scenarios B2, B3, B4 defined in file "Granollers/Future_scenario/presentació_COCONAT.24.10.23 (1).pdf") All data are provided in NetCDF format following PALM-4U conventions. Simulation MetadataModel: PALM-4UVersion: v24.04Region: Granollers, Spain Coordinate Reference System (CRS): EPSG:25831 (ETRS89 / UTM zone 31N)Domain extent: xmin: 434300.0 ymin: 4600200.0 xmax: 446300.0 ymax: 4612200.0 Horizontal resolution: 10 mVertical resolution: 10 m Modelled period: 06:00 21 July 2013 UTC to 06:00 22 July 2013 UTC Initial and Boundary ConditionsNo dynamic driver file was used for this simulation. The model was initializedusing a vertical profile of temperature, relative humidity, and wind derivedfrom the nearest available upper-air sounding station (Zaragoza, 21 July 2013).This profile represents typical summer conditions for the region. The simulationwas started at 06 UTC. Zaragoza is located approximately 300 km southwest ofGranollers. Surface and Land-Use Data SourcesDigital elevation model (DEM) and digital surface model (DSM): Source: Instituto Geografico Nacional (IGN), Spain Type: Raster data (2 m resolution) Description: Terrain elevation and heights of surface objects such as buildings, trees, and vegetation. Building footprints: Source: OpenStreetMap Type: Vector data Vegetation and trees: Sources: OpenStreetMap and local data provided by AQUATEC Type: Vector data Land use (streets, pavements, water bodies): Source: OpenStreetMap Type: Vector data Folder StructureThe .tar.gz archive contains the following structure: Granollers/ Reference_scenario/ INPUT/ OUTPUT/ USER_CODE/ Future_scenario/ INPUT/ OUTPUT/ USER_CODE/ Reference_scenario/ INPUT/ contains all static input files required by PALM-4U,including land-use data, building and vegetation data, and PALM configuration files. OUTPUT/ contains the model output files for the reference scenario, including 2D atmospheric fields of ta_2m*_xy and bio_utci*_xy. USER_CODE/ contains modifications to the original PALM-4U code. Here the water temperature is increased to 295 K. Future_scenario/ Same structure as above, but with modified input data representing the future or planning scenario. File FormatsAll simulation data are stored in: - NetCDF4 format- CF-compliant metadata where applicable- Compression applied where possible How to Use the Data1. Extract the .tar.gz archive.2. Navigate to the scenario of interest (Reference_scenario or Future_scenario).3. Use the INPUT folder to inspect or reproduce the simulation setup.4. Use the OUTPUT folder for analysis, visualization, or comparison between scenarios.5. Tools such as palmplot, ncview, xarray, or netCDF4 can be used to explore the data.
