Avaliación de necesidades para a implementación de programas de acollemento familiar en Galicia

Abstract

Foster care is a child protection measure aimed at providing adequate care and support to children and adolescents who cannot live with their birth families. Although foster care it is prioritised over residential care, there is currently an insufficient number of foster families to meet existing needs. Understanding the motivations that encourage individuals to become foster carers, as well as the perceived barriers to this decision, is therefore essential. The main objective of this study is to assess the needs of the population in Galicia regarding the implementation of foster care programmes. The study aims to identify motivations and barriers perceived by the general population to become foster families as well as to analyse the acceptability of the foster care program "living in a Family for a school year". An online survey was completed by 776 adults in Galicia (NW Spain). The findings will contribute to understanding societal perceptions of family foster care, raising awareness of these programmes, and identifying individuals interested in receiving further information and engaging in foster care initiatives.
