This essay is a result of my second postdoctoral research fellowship awarded by the Fondazione Michele Pellegrino (Turin), conducted within the project "a attori a martiri: i santi del teatro tardoantico". It aims to reconstruct for the first time the story of Saint Ardalion, a mime martyred between the third and the fourth century, through an overall analysis of the related sources published so far. Furthermore, it highlights the significant common elements between the story of Saint Ardalion and the hagiographic tradition of martyred mimes, which developed from the fifth century onwards.
