This module, English for Life and Beyond: Language, Values and Effective Academic-Professional Communication, is designed to support the progressive development of learners’ communication skills across grade levels, particularly bridging the foundational competencies in Grade 10 English and the advanced academic and professional skills required in Grade 12, especially for ABM learners. Anchored on the K to 12 English Curriculum and aligned with the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs), the module emphasizes effective communication as a life skill grounded in clarity, respect, critical thinking, and responsible language use.The lessons reflect a spiral approach to learning. In Grade 10, learners are introduced to essential communication skills such as expressing opinions respectfully, identifying main ideas and supporting details, expanding vocabulary through context clues, organizing paragraphs, and delivering short speeches. These skills serve as the foundation for the Grade 12 lessons, where learners are expected to apply more advanced language functions, including the use of academic and professional language, grammatical accuracy in formal writing, coherence through cohesive devices, structured argumentation, and evidence-based reasoning in academic and business contexts.Throughout the module, language learning is integrated with values formation. Learners are encouraged to respect differing viewpoints, communicate ethically, collaborate with peers, and reflect on their role as responsible communicators in school, the workplace, and the community. Activities are learner-centered, contextualized, and performance-based, allowing students to apply language skills in real-life and academic situations. This module is intended to guide both teachers and learners in achieving continuity in learning while gradually increasing the complexity and depth of communication skills. It is hoped that this material will help learners transition confidently from basic communication tasks to more advanced academic and professional discourse, preparing them for higher education, employment, and active participation in society.
