Asociación entre el índice de masa corporal y el estado general de salud en trabajadores agroindustriales en Ecuador, 2024.

Abstract

La salud y la alimentación en el contexto laboral agroindustrial son determinantes clave para el bienestar y la productividad de los trabajadores. Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo analizar la relación entre el Índice de Masa Corporal (IMC) y el estado de salud general en trabajadores de una empresa agroindustrial mediante un diseño transversal correlacional y un enfoque cuantitativo. Se aplicó el cuestionario SF-36 para evaluar dimensiones del estado de salud percibido y se realizó una evaluación antropométrica para calcular el IMC. Los resultados mostraron una correlación inversa y significativa entre el IMC y todas las dimensiones de salud evaluadas, especialmente en funcionamiento físico, rol físico y salud general, indicando que un mayor IMC se asocia con un deterioro progresivo en la calidad de vida y limitaciones funcionales. Se evidenció una prevalencia elevada de sobrepeso (46%) y obesidad (33%) en la muestra, lo que afecta negativamente tanto la movilidad como el rendimiento laboral y el bienestar emocional. Estas conclusiones resaltan la urgencia de implementar programas preventivos en el ámbito laboral para promover hábitos alimentarios saludables y mejorar la salud integral de los trabajadores, lo cual repercutirá favorablemente en su calidad de vida y en la productividad empresarial.
