Abstract In the modern era, where globalization and technological progress have transformed the direction of human life, there still exist certain events that attract millions of people from India and abroad towards spiritual, cultural, and social unity. The Kumbh Mela, organized every 12 years at four major locations—Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik—is one such unique event. It is not only a center of religious faith but also has wide-ranging social and economic impacts. The objective of this research paper is to analyze the various economic dimensions of the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 to be held in Prayagraj—a rare and significant event occurring after an interval of 144 years—along with its astronomical and social aspects. The study aims not only to develop a deeper understanding of its traditional elements but also to clearly highlight its extensive economic impact and significance in the contemporary context. In this study, qualitative data were collected through interactions with approximately 400 respondents, including pilgrims from different states, local businessmen, shopkeepers, and other stakeholders. The analysis of the economic impacts of the Mahakumbh reveals that it makes a significant contribution not only to the state economy but also to national economic development. Employment opportunities were generated across various sectors such as hotels, transport, and tourism, while public investment increased, marking a positive step towards long-term infrastructural development. In addition, during the Mahakumbh, substantial growth was recorded in government revenue as well as in the income of various social groups. Nearly all small and large traders and industries earned within just 45 days the income that would normally take six to eight months to generate. Thus, the Mahakumbh has established its reputation as a successful event by playing a vital role in regional and national economic development.
