The study generally focused on which infectious pathogens can occur in urban feral pigeons and how they are spatially distributed within a city, specifically in Brno. The main aim was to assess whether pigeons may represent a potential health risk to humans, since they often live in close proximity to people and contaminate public spaces with their droppings. The results showed that some of the monitored microorganisms are indeed present in pigeons and that their occurrence can be concentrated in certain parts of the city, supporting the need for monitoring these risks in urban environments. This project, SS06020195: “Veterinary and sociological aspects of the occurrence of free-ranging wildlife in urban environments as a basis for their effective management and decision-making by public authorities,” was co-financed with state support from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic under the Environment for Life Programme and funded under the National Recovery Plan through the European Recovery and Resilience Facility.
