Abstract

Ce que l’étude apporte de nouveau. Cette étude cas-témoins prospective démontre que les patients diabétiques présentent non seulement un syndrome sec oculaire dans 75% des cas, mais que sa forme la plus fréquente est le type mixte (39%). Surtout, elle révèle une atteinte sévère et spécifique des glandes de Meibomius, avec une prévalence de dysfonctionnement des glandes Meibomius (DGM) de 53% contre 38% chez les témoins. L'altération du meibum (qualité et quantité) est significativement plus marquée et corrélée à la durée d'évolution du diabète. Les implications. Ces résultats justifient l'intégration systématique d'un examen des glandes de Meibomius (meibographie, test de meibopression) au bilan de routine, en plus des tests lacrymaux classiques, afin de diagnostiquer et traiter précocement le DGM, particulièrement chez les patients diabétiques de longue date.
