Measurements of birds ƒrom Colombia, Venezuela, and Guiana.— ♂ ♂ (33 specimens) wing 54.5 -59.5 mm., tail 39.5 (worn), 43- 46 mm., culmen 9-10.5 mm., tarsus 15- 16.5 mm.; ♀ ♀ (18 specimens) wing 52-57 mm., tail 40.5-46.5 mm., culmen 8.5 - 10 mm., tarsus 15- 16.5 mm. Measurements of birds ƒrom Trinidad.— ♂ ♂ (6 specimens) wing 53 - 58.5 mm., tail 42-48 mm., culmen 9.5 - 10.5 mm., tarsus 15 - 16 mm.; 9 9 (3 specimens) wing 53 - 57.5 mm., tail 41.5-46 mm., culmen 10- 10.5 mm., tarsus 15 - 16 mm. ⁵ Specimens in the Chicago Natural History Museum, Chicago, III. Description of female.— Fresh plumage: forecrown and sides of head bright rusty buff,chest bright buff,somewhat paler on abdomen; upper parts brownish olive, wing coverts very slightly pale edged. Worn plumage: general color duller, belly very pale buff to almost white. Range.—From northern Colombia (the lower río Sinú and Gamarra on the lower río Magdalena) through Venezuela to the Takutu Mts. on the Brazil-Guiana border. The island of Trinidad. Remarks.—Birds belonging to this race usually lack the white patches on the sides of the neck. If present at all,they are merely suggested. Rarely they have the median wing coverts edged with white or pale grayish white. The feet and nails are always dark. In a series of 5 adult males from Trinidad, only one shows any white at all at the sides of the neck, which is said to be the distinguishing character of S. intermedia insularis (Gilliard) (Auk, 63, p. 571, 1946, Princestown, Trinidad). An equal amount is shown in a bird from Dibulla. I, therefore, do not feel it advisable to recognize insularis.
