Data for: "Controlling capillary fingering morphology in patterned porous media"

Abstract

----------------------------Data description---------------------------- The shared data comprises of ready to run OpenFOAM cases that were used in the manuscript titled "Controlling capillary fingering morphology in patterned porous media" - Physical Review Fluids. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1103/j3lw-9875 We provide the ready to run cases with no simulation output due to size limitations if all data were included. ----------------------------Usage notes----------------------------As the provided cases are already meshed, users must run the following commands to run the OpenFOAM simulations:-> setFields (set initial occupancy of the invading fluid within the porous medium) -> decomposePar (decompose entire porous domain into x parts as mentioned in system/decomposeParDict file of respective cases) -> mpiexec -np 8 interFoam -parallel (runs the simulation until time mentioned in system/controlDict file of cases) -> reconstructPar (reconstructs individual results from each processor for each output time as a single time output folder)-> rm -rf pro* (remove decomposed data to avoid data duplication and save space) The simulation results can be visualized in ParaView. ----------------------------Description of cases supplied----------------------------The compressed repository 'PPM_Data_Availability.zip' have the following files:1. flow_HeterogeneousPM: case with random grains distribution but with similar grain size distribution as for the case 'lambda_0.67' (see below).2. lambda_0.67: case with heterogeneity factor of 0.67 (maximum difference between grain sizes in two zones of the porous medium),3. lambda_0.75: case with heterogeneity factor of 0.75 (difference between grain sizes in two zones of the porous medium are less than for lambda_0.67),4. lambda_0.83: case with heterogeneity factor of 0.83 (difference between grain sizes in two zones of the porous medium are less than for lambda_0.75),5. lambda_0.92: case with heterogeneity factor of 0.92 (minimum difference between grain sizes in two zones of the porous medium),6. patternedPM: has 4 folders within: bird, fish, flower, stripes. The 'flow_HeterogeneousPM, patternedPM (all 4 cases)' are exact representation of the cases presented in the above-mentioned manuscript. For cases 'lambda_0.xy', the case represents when applied dimensionless pressure drop between inlet and outlet boundaries is 0.06 (refer to the manuscript). To reproduce the rest of the cases presented in the manuscript under different dimensionless pressure drops, user must change line 27 of 0/p_rgh file accordingly.
