A IMPORTÂNCIA DA CONSCIENTIZAÇÃO ACERCA DA INCONTINÊNCIA URINÁRIA PARA MELHOR DIRECIONAMENTO NA BUSCA DO TRATAMENTO ADEQUADO: UM RELATO DE EXPERIÊNCIA DE UMA TURMA EXTENSIONISTA DE ALUNOS DO ENSINO PRESENCIAL E SEMIPRESENCIAL

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study reports an outreach activity carried out by Physical Therapy students from the UniFanor Wyden University Center at Rachel de Queiroz Park in Fortaleza-CE. The objective was to raise awareness among the female population regarding Urinary Incontinence (UI), promoting self-knowledge and encouraging early treatment. The methodology consisted of a direct approach to the public through the distribution of informative folders and verbal guidance on the types of UI (stress, urgency, and mixed), risk factors, and the role of pelvic physical therapy. The results showed that a large portion of the public was unaware of the non-surgical role of physical therapists, often associating involuntary urine loss with a natural aging process. The interaction revealed barriers such as shyness and lack of information, which were mitigated by the accessible language used. It is concluded that educational practices in public spaces are essential to demystify health taboos in women's health, strengthen the social responsibility of future professionals, and empower the community for early detection of pelvic floor dysfunctions, significantly improving the participants' quality of life and self-esteem. Keywords: Urinary Incontinence; Women's Health; Physical Therapy; Health Education; Pelvic Floor.
